One Year Birthday Cake Smash: Twins!

Updated: Jan 20, 2022

It is so fun doing one-year cake smash sessions! You never know how a little one is going to react to all of the exciting decorations, a cake that they have never seen before, the new environment around them, and a photographer and family encouraging them to explore this frosted object. Sometimes there are tears, and sometimes there are bring smiles and handfuls of cake that get shoved into a little ones mouth. These adorable twins are a perfect example of how a session can go either way.

For the one-year cake smash package, a three-hour time window is blocked off at the studio. One hour for set-up (a custom balloon arch done by Balloons by Twisted Sisters gets installed in the studio that morning), another for the actual session, and the third for clean-up. As a family you can show up in time for your session knowing that things should be ready for you when you walk in the door, and can leave after you've changed your child into clean clothes with your cake in hand. No need to worry about setting up or cleaning up the mess on the floor ( you are even welcome to bring your balloon arch home in you have the space in your van/truck!)

We start with family portraits when everyone is nice and clean and THEN introduce "the cake". The package comes with a custom cake (or two) from Homestead Treats that gets delivered to my door the night before (frozen) so it's ready JUST in time for your session. Sarah also brings a matching cake stand and a giant cake spatula for us to borrow for the session! This makes for a smooth and hands-free cake box to stand and back to cake box again transition. Her treats are amazing/delicious and can be sugar-free, gluten-free, or whatever you need!

Before your session, I will also be sure to give tips and tricks on how to prepare your little one, ideal wardrobe, and the like. It is important to remember however, that you never know how they are going to respond in the moment. Here is a perfect example by the twins. One LOVED the cake and the other (who hates getting dirty) burst into tears. With some special tricks, we got both girls to smile again, but it's good to docment it all ;).

Feel free to reach out if you are interested in doing a one-year cake smash session with your little one(s) today!
